All truth belongs to God. This includes the results of credible scientific research. In the Soul Restore program, we will include insights from current concepts in Trauma Recovery to Illustrate God’s truth.
Generally, in current clinical approaches to recovering from painful or traumatic events, there are four distinct phases. In the Soul Restore program, we find that Psalm 23 takes us through each of these same four stages.
We will use eight principles from the 23rd Psalm and insights from trauma recovery to see how we can allow God to heal us from pain and increase our ability to respond to future painful or traumatic events. This ability to bounce back from painful or traumatic experiences is known as resilience.
The four phases of trauma recovery align with Psalm 23 as follows:
1. Developing Healing and Restoring (Therapeutic) Relationships
Psalm 23: 1-2
Principle One – Restoring Safety in our Relationship with God and Ourselves
Principle Two – Being Loved in Safe, Healing Relationships with Others:
2. Changing our Mindset to Process Life toward Healthy Outcomes
Psalm 23: 3
Principle Three – Building Positive Expectations of our Birthright Blessings from God
Principle Four - Breaking the Bonds of our Past and Choosing a “Conquer” Mindset
3. Exposure to Life in “Real-time,” Using a System to Consistently Heal and Grow
Psalm 23: 4-5a
Principle Five – Developing our System to Respond to Life in Healthy Ways
Principle Six – Engage in a Daily Plan to Walk Out our Freedom and Our Values
4. Living with Resilience: Intention, Authenticity, and Integrity
Psalm 23: 5b-6
Principle Seven – Respond and Communicate using God’s Rules of Engagement
Principle Eight – Developing a Godly Legacy Through growing in Character
